Abstract:Since the early 1980's, the world's financial markets have undergone a process of change which has been both revolutionary and irreversible. Whilst the starting point for many of these changes has been the established financial centres of the United States and Europe, the flow-on effects have been felt throughout the world, including the Asia-Pacific region. This paper addresses three questions: what has been the impetus for the changes experienced by global financial markets over the last 15 years? what have been the implications for both providers and users of financial services: and more specifically? what has occurred and what are the potential developments over the next 5-10 years in Asia?
