Abstract:The trend towards a capital markets' culture is clearly apparent in Continental Europe. Markets have become larger and more efficient and the range of products much more diverse. Securities are gaining importance as a financing instrument and investment vehicle. Institutional investors in particular are becoming increasingly influential and want a corporate policy aimed at value accretion. Banks, within the scope of their possibilities, must adjust their strategies to the latest developments. A niche provider focusing on regions, products or customer segments can be just as successful as a global player operating universally in all competitive arenas. The main thing is to exploit synergies, strengthen banks' own brand and optimize the satisfaction of clients' wishes with excellent services.
