Abstract: | Changes in industrial R & D will accelerate over the next 10 years. Scenario planning indicates that there is a plenty of drivers of change, the most prominent of which are globalization and information technology. People in the industrial R & D laboratory of 2008 will be more risk-taking and business-oriented, with skills that are constantly being upgraded. Technical intelligence will be fully integrated throughout the firm and far more comprehensive than today. Technical work will be more efficient and effective, utilizing a wide variety of outside resources. Flexible organizational structures and integration will capitalize on new era of creativity for growth and competitiveness. Leadership and skillful management will be critical elements of these evolving processes. |
