Abstract: | To burst out of the traditional straight jacket of salary range points and job grading boundaries, companies that want flatter organizations are experimenting with banding as a new approach to compensation. Banding gives managers more flexibility in staffing and helps firms respond quickly to internal changes like restructuring. But banding can have two diametrically opposed results: decreased morale or improved teamwork. If the business climate is right, however, banding may be the compensation solution to problems that often perplex human resources professionals. |
