| Abstract: | The soaring costs of waste management caused considerable problems to Boehringer Mannheim GmbH, a German pharmaceutical company. The ever increasing costs of waste management reached ten millions DEM a year. Since the prices of the waste industry are out of the control of the company, the only possible way to cut these costs is to reduce the volume of waste generated at the company. This required the complete reorganization of the waste management logistics of the firm. The process of the reorganization is described in the article. Due to this project, the company will spare 2 millions DEM yearly from 1995. |
