Abstract: | This study explores the extent to which a number of conventional indicators of technological and industrial change could act as warning signals for the particular technical change which opens up a mass market for a new substitute.Intrinsic to this approach is a conseptualization of the process of a technological discontinuity as one which embodies a number of minor discontinuities, each constituting an important innovation. The most significant of these innovations is the one which has such price/ performance attributes that it makes the product into the reach of mass market segments. |
