Abstract:The explosives, pure poisons, wastes, and other hazardous shipments on the road: some examples. What can be done in emergency? Hazardous materials travel through densely populated areas. There is a law against hauling them through a city by truck, but it is not enforced. The Federal Highway Administration has very few full-time inspectors. Criminal sanctions are unsatisfactory to use with businessmen. The local fire department is usually the first and sometimes the only emergency team, but its people are rarely trained to handle hazardous materials. The state's safety programs in New Hampshire, California, New Mexico Cincinnati and in some of the larger towns.These include licensing, prohibitions, penalties, emergency plans etc.
