Abstract:The determinants of the human resource (HR) policies of human resource management (HRM) are under debate. It is questioned if they reflect national institutional or cultural realities, emerging common global practices, parent country effects or the dual effects of transnational and national realities. Based on an extensive international database to examine these differences, assessing variations in a range of HR practices, there is found new evidence of national differences in the way in which indigenous firms manage their people. Among multinational corporations, there is also found evidence of a similarity in practice.
