Abstract:The general attitude of the Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian population towards joining the EU has become somewhat more critical in recent years. This is largely due to the gradual understanding that admission to the EU may not automatically solve all security problems and that membership will not bring along any major economic advantages, as compared to the already existing free trade agreements between the Baltic states and the EU. But the need to subject oneself to some directions or "game rules" breeds certain opposition.
