Abstract:Estonian public opinion surveys of the 1990s always had the environmental situation listed among the most relevant issues. Sociologists considered Estonians' level of environmental awareness (not only in terms of the amount of concern, but also in terms of understanding of ecological problems) remarkably high compared to western European countries. How has the situation changed now since moving from state socialism to a market economy and a (temporary) decline in industrial output?
