Abstract: | The need for the differentiation between the candidate countries results from three reasons. The first reason is that the meeting of the EU admission criteria will take a different amount of time for each country due to their different starting positions. This process could be somewhat accelerated by a concerted effort, but Romania, for example, is certainly unlikely to reach the level of, say, the Czech Republic within a few years. When applying the above to the Baltic states, it is clear that Estonia has reached somewhat ahead of Latvia and Lithuania in reforming its economy. |
