Abstract:The first phase of the transformation is now largely complete in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania; market forces determine prices and external trade, and a relatively stable macroeconomic environment has been achieved. The next steps in economic transformation of the Baltic States is now directly linked to integration with the European Union. Still, the major problem for the Baltics is the income gap with the developed countries. All the Baltic states have a low GDP per capita.
