Abstract: | This paper examines the impact of U.K. National Lottery (hereafter as: NL.) play on women's everyday leisure (here as: l.) experiences. A questionnaire was administered to a diverse group of 150 women out of which 15 participants volunteered to take part in in-depth interviews focusing on individual experiences, meanings and perceptions of lottery play as a form of l. The quantitative and qualitative findings are discussed in terms of the material and ideological constraints shaping women's everyday experiences of l., and also as to the ways in which gender and 'caring' are reproduced through women's NL. play. |
