Title:Antecedents of identity in virtual teams

Abstract:This study examines how identification (henceforth as: id-n.) with virtual teams (VT/VTs) is related to structural factors (here as: str-fcts.), such as the degree of virtuality (here as: d-of-v.), team size (as: t-s.), team tenure (as: t-t.), cultural diversity (as: c-d.), and organizational justice (as: o-j). O-j. and t-t. are argued to be positively related to id-n. By contrast, d-of-v., t-s., and c-d. are hypothesized to have a negative relationship with id-n. Based on testing a sample of 91 VT members, it is found that o-j. has a strong positive relation to VT id-n. However, contrary to expectations, the str-fcts. were not related to id-n.
