Abstract:The purpose of the article is to examine senior citizens' motives for bingo playing, as well as the consequences of it. The study is conducted in New South Wales, Australia, where 40 people participated in discussions of the topic in three focus groups. According to the study, the motivations to play bingo were to socialize, to reduce isolation and loneliness, to combat depression through relaxation, to balance boredom with healthy living, to escape from pressures at home, to find entertainment and to keep alert. The consequences were reported to be the reduction of physical activity and the possibility to develop gambling problems.
