| Abstract: | A review of the new powers granted to nonbank thrift institutions enabling them to compete with commercial banks, the relationship between market structure and profit performance, the application of Herfindahl index measures, average bank rates of return in a market and the fact that branching law variables indicate that bank profits are lower in markets located in statewide branching states than in other states. |
