Abstract:The growth of Malaysia's banks is largely due to a consumer boom led by widespread and growing use of credit cards. Consumer credit rose by 74.3% in 1989, and by 76.1% in 1990. Now the government has taken several measures to control credit demand. The authorities have tightened the conditions for use of credit cards. The central bank increased the statutory reserve of all commercial and merchant banks.
