| Abstract: | Any ritual perceived as a text comprising a sequence of symbols should have its paradigmatics and syntagmatics at the level of form and morphology and syntax at the level of content. The latter is not always easy to read because of the elusive nature of the semantics of ritual symbols. The article offers an analysis of the "grammar' of material, actional and verbal symbols and points out the tendency towards maximal synonymity and repetition of the same content through symbols of differing types as a characteristic feature of the symbolism of rituals. |
