| Abstract: | The local varieties of ancient Slav rituals have many structural and semantic features in common.Despite the fact that the Western Slav ritual of Marena and the Eastern Slav Kupala take place in different seasons /the first in spring,the second in summer/ and that the first symbolizes the end of winter while the second is the symbol of doing away with evil, there are striking similarities, for instance, in the way the puppet is stuffed and decorated before being thrown into the fire. |
