| Abstract: | "Izgoi" in the Russian medieval culture meant a social position of being akin and at the same time alien to a given societal stratum. This distinction was due to the possession of qualities, skills or knowledge that was in one or another way useful but not common or rare in a given community. The article describes the phenomenon of "izgoinichestvo" of such members of the Russian society as witch doctors, sorcerers, learned people, foreign teachers, executioners, etc. |
