Abstract:Recently, major disasters have appeared remarkably in the media. This article utilizes comparative research on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and corporate philanthropy to study the geography of corporate philanthropic disaster response. Analysed are donation announcements made by Fortune Global 500 firms from Asia, Europe and North America to look for regional patterns across three disasters: Hurricane Katrina, the Kashmiri earthquake and the South Asian Tsunami. Interregional differences in the overall likelihood of donations with their cash value are found. Also, the identification of home-region effects and local presence effects are found.
