Abstract:The search for regular features of folklore thinking requires an exploration of its roots and architypes. Folk dramas are particularly useful in such work. The St.Petersburg throne became a pivotal folklore element which was linked with the revival of the death and resurrection motif. The space of the throne interacted with its dynamic antidote, that of the Volga River. This has been best reflected in two folk dramas entitled "Tsar Maximilian" and "Lodka" which represented a dual system of plots and motives.
