Abstract:The components of a career development program should include employee involvement and participation. Employees must understand that career development is their responsibility, not the employer's. In addition, the employee should assess what he or she enjoys about the job and what he or she finds distasteful. Career and personal values also should be inspected along with strong points and areas that need development. Employees also must grasp which personality styles and on-the-job behaviors facilitate productivity and effectiveness and which detract from it.
