Abstract:Japanese manufacturers have been flooding world markets with quality goods, whereas their domestic market appeared to be impenetrable by foreign competitors. Cultural and social factors influencing trade barriers and buyers' behaviour are highlighted, hidden barriers, as channel relationships, oligolopolistic competition, government procurement, regulations and standards, custom valuation codes, intellectual property rights, and industrial targeting are explained. Visible tariff and non-tariff barriers are also discussed. Strategies for dealing with barriers are suggested, some examples of overcoming them are offered.
