| Abstract: | A stable European currency is advantageous in that it reduces transaction costs and contributes to the integration of national markets. It is a worthy aim but has serious preconditions: harmonization of national rates of inflation, stronger position for issueing banks, their shielding from political pressure etc. The European currency has its negative side too: the tool of exchange rate manipulation is lost. |
