Abstract:The author illustrates the response rates currently achievable for probability samples of the British population, in both Government research and commercial surveys and demonstrates that, in the latter case, demonstrable, relevant bias exists. The author then turns to non-profitablilty sampling, employed in the vast majority of market research cases and, for a typical design , discusses the interpretation of "response rate" in the non-profitability context and advances some data, again demonstrating relevant bias, if certain assumptions are accepted.
