Abstract:This study combines depreciation and increasing marginal cost in a continuous-time model of a durable goods monopolist. Steady-state output in this model is less than in the competitive case. This study shows that in a continuous-time model with both increasing marginal cost and depreciation, a durable-good monopolist will produce a steady-state level of the stock that is less than the level that would be produced by a price-taking firm , but more than would be produced by a leasing of precommitted monopolist.
