Abstract: | The literature on qualitive research interviewing skills concentrates on questioning styles, techniques, procedures, and the informant/researcher relationship. Less attention has been paid to the ways in which informant cooperation is solicited prior to interview. Two modes of recruitment are discussed. The author seeks to advance the proposition that variations in the implicit contract between researcher and informant vary the legitimate content of the interview as transaction and thus alter the nature and emphasis of the research evidence collected. |
