Abstract:Writers on management use 3 concepts of culture: homogeneous organizational, heterogeneous subgroup, and ambiguous cultures. Each of them focuses primarily on the context in which the individual member of an organization acts, and suggests that the latitude for individual action increases as the orderliness of that context decreases. By incorporating a dynamic perspective into the cultural analysis of organizations, the author develops a framework in which individuals not only adhere to, but also depart from highly ordered organizational and subgroup cultures.
