Abstract: | This article focuses on two related topics in the discussion on strategic group formation: the relevance of strategic groups for understanding industry heterogeneity, and the question whether companies from a strategic group establish strategic links with each other, or whether intragroup rivalry leads to interfirm cooperation across strategic groups. The authors focus on the international information technology industry to study the possible symmetry of the structure of strategic group formation and parallel interfirm networks of strategic partnering. |
