Abstract:This paper has three objectives: 1. to provide an exposition of the 'realist turn' (hereafter as: 'r-t.') in contemporary organization and management studies, 2. to assess the detailed implications of this incipient 'r-t.', 3. to evaluate the potential longer-term impact of explanatory principles and practices. Overall, this paper concludes that the 'r-t.' creates a significant intellectual opportunity and space in which the historical sociology of dynamic organizational forms and managerial control regimes can be rediscovered and renewed.
