Abstract: | In this article the author responds to some of the points suggested in an article written by Macdonald and Kam (2007). The author disagrees with their view of the current publication practices in management studies, as he sees their perspective to be a little too bleak. The author argues that academic journal publication can be functionally analysed as a market system based upon exchanges through which value is created and distributed through processes of evaluation. In the paper the author also discusses the alternative market forms such as: open publishing and open peer review and the nature of the market. |
