Abstract:This study aims at further delineating how a firm's pursuit of entrepreneurial activities is influenced by firm's competitive environment. A model establishing the role of discretionary slack (hereafter as: d-s.) as a salient mediating mechanism is developed and tested. In addition, two contingencies explaining further d-s.'s impact on corporate entrepreneurship are explored. Based on survey data from 495 small- to medium-sized firms (SMEs), there is found support for this study's model and its associated hypotheses. Especially, it is found that d-s. is significantly influenced by managerial perceptions of environmental munificence and dynamism etc.
