Abstract:The purpose of the paper is to develop a typology for organizational ambidexterity. The authors draw from the existing body of literature concerning this field of research, and integrate the views on ambidexterity's conceptualization. A typology is created that uses two primary dimensions of previous conceptualizations to specify four archetypes of ambidexterity (harmonic, cyclical, partitional and reciprocal ambidexterity). These archetypes are then mapped to theories, antecedents and outcomes. Recommendations regarding future research and the application of the developed typology are presented.
