Abstract:Consider the following scene: It is the year 2004. Your company is named in a product liability suit concerning a widget you stopped manufacturing in 1993. The plaintiff's legal team subpoenas your company records, including - to your surprise - employee computer discettes and old magnetic tape backup units found in an unused storage closet. After a search of those materials, the plaintiff's legal team turns up old employee electronic mail messages discussing the widget's quality.
