Abstract:Text mining (hereafter as: t-m.) can be used by hoteliers to develop competitive and strategic intelligence through text-based information (here as: info.) freely on the Internet. There is a demonstration of t-m. compiled info. about Hong Kong hotels and about would-be travellers. Such relatively invariant info. as statistics on competitors' facilities is fairly easy to assemble. However, variant info. such as room rates, can be elusive. Customers' attitudes and demographics can be mined with reasonable accuracy e.g. from newsgroup postings.
