Abstract:This article studies the responses of the accounting academics in North America to recent accounting and auditing scandals. According to the authors, the main responses have been either to appeal to accounting ethics, portray them as isolated cases or to suggest that the cases are indications of problems elsewhere. The authors also suggest changes in accounting teaching and research.
