Abstract:The paper discusses the concepts of authenticity, existential authenticity, sincerity, hyperreality and simulacra that are frequently used in accounting for tourist experience. A case study of Lord of the Rings movies-inspired film tourism in New Zealand is conducted. The findings of the study indicate that a more elaborate version of authenticity can be detected. Furthermore, it can be concluded that film-tourists value not only physical sights and objects, but also especially experiences of embodied interaction with the filming location and others.
