Abstract:This paper explores how the companies respond to regulatory and other pressures to reduce their greenhouse gas (henceforth as: g-g.) emissions. Based on the published climate change policies and the performance of 125 large European companies, it is found that most large companies have established the management systems and processes necessary in order to effectively manage the emissions and related business risks. Companies with significant g-g. emissions have remarkably stronger governance oversight and reporting. Yet, it is also suggested that a significant minority of companies, possibly 20 percent, have significant weaknesses in their related management systems and processes etc.
