Abstract:For foreign investors, post-conflict economies often prove worrying. A scholarly inquiry on investment decision making (herein as: i-d-m.) has suggested that i-d-m. is often motivated by non-pecuniary, psychological concerns. Herein, developed is a conceptual model identifying three types of investment return expectations, i.e. financial, emotional, and those related to social status. It is argued that the psychological realities and social-status structure of the diaspora experience produce greater salience for non-pecuniary investment motivations, especially when the origin country emerges from a period of conflict.
