Abstract:The aim of this paper is to evaluate the effect of the euro on the relationship between firm size and exports. Previous new-new trade theory models are applied to derive some hypotheses which are then tested using a representative sample of Spanish manufacturing firms. The results suggest that the introduction of the euro has substantially weakened the role of firm size in making the decision to export to the Eurozone. Moreover, the change in the proportion of exports to the Eurozone is negatively related to the size of the firm. The results indicate that the euro has dimished the threshold size in order to export to Eurozone countries.
