| Tiivistelmä (fin): | Äänekosken keskustaa täydennysrakennetaan ja jäsennetään kaupunkitilallisin muutoksin. Ydinkeskustaa tiivistetään ja sinne sijoitetaan noin yhdeksänsataa uutta asukasta, mikä lisää keskustan käyttöä. Kauppojen ja palveluiden asiakaskunta kasvaa ydinkeskustan alueella. Tämä luo kysyntää erikoistavarakaupalle sekä palveluiden kehittämiselle, mikä puolestaan vahvistaa Äänekosken kulttuuria, Työni pääteema on positiivisen kulttuurikierteen luominen Äänekosken ydinkeskustaan: ihmisiä houkutellaan keskustan käyttäjiksi paremman palvelutarjonnan ja käyttäjälähtöisen suunnittelun avulla, jolloin keskustan kaupunkikulttuuri kukoistaa ja houkuttelee uusia käyttäjiä. Muutoksen keinona käytetään diplomityössäni vaiheittaista pitkän aikavälin jatkosuunnittelua ja käyttäjien tottumuksiin sopeutuvaa sekä niitä ohjaavaa suunnittelua - kestävää muutosta. Suunnittelulla kannustettavat tottumukset luovat kulttuuria, joka johtaa kaupunkirakenteen kehittymiseen käyttäjälähtöisesti. Kukoistava kaupunkikulttuuri ja tiivis ydinkeskusta vaativat toteutuakseen hyvän saavutettavuuden. Saavutettavuuden lisääminen ydinkeskustan alueella on työni toinen pääteema. Avaukset kaupunkirakenteessa, uudet kevyen liikenteen yhteydet sekä keskustan pääkadun uudistaminen lisäävät ydinkeskustan saavutettavuutta. Tärkein liikenteellinen muutos on kävelypainotteisen ydinkeskustan kehittäminen nykyisen autoilukeskustan rinnalle. Äänekosken ydinkeskustasta muodostuu pikkukaupunkimainen ja tiivis nelikerroksinen kaupunkitila. Kaupunkirakenteen pikkukaupungin mittakaava on työni kolmas pääteema: sopivan väljät pääkadut ja korttelirakenne luovat keskustasta miellyttävän, selkeän ja raikkaan. |
| Tiivistelmä (eng): | The centre of Äänekoski town, located north of Jyväskylä in central Finland, is being compacted and re-structured by changes and additions to the urban space. The foremost change is a new walking centre, implemented to work amidst the existing, driving focused urban structure. The very centre of the city will be infill built to house approximately nine hundred new inhabitants. The change in the centre is not achieved by instant construction. Instead, the armament used is sustainable change. This means adapting future planning to the current and future user's habits and directing those habits by planning. Habits create culture, and the aim of the development plan is to create flourishing urban culture in the centre which will feed itself and the compacting of the whole town. The inserts in blue text explain the chapters' relation to this theme of sustainable change, which is the main theme in my thesis. Compacting and increasing the living in the centre of Äänekoski will increase demand for shops and services. There will be more business opportunities for specialized shops, which will drive the consumer habits of the inhabitant: As the shops and services develop in the centre, having better selection and being increasingly accessible, the inhabitants of Äänekoski are more likely to do their shopping in the centre. This opens the main theme of my thesis, which is creating a positive drive of city culture: By attracting people to use the services in the centre, and by increasing habitation therein, the urban culture will start to flourish in the centre Äänekoski. A flourishing city culture will further increase the use of the centre, thus feeding itself. In order to achieve cultural growth, accessibility must be improved along the new structure. The second main theme of my work is improving the accessibility in Äänekoski centre. This is done by openings in the urban structure, new connections for pedestrian and bicycle traffic, and renewal of the main street. The urban scape of Äänekoski will be that of a four stories high, compact small town. The third main theme of my work is to search for an urban scale that adds to the quaintness, clarity and freshness of Äänekoski. |
