Tiivistelmä (eng):In order to meet the witnessed exponential growth of data traffic and wirelessly connected devices for the next decade, Millimeter Waves (mmW) and ultra-dense networks have been envisioned as key enablers of future 5G mobile systems.

Without any doubt, a significant part of the upcoming cellular demands will be generated indoors.
As result, an adequate coverage and network dimensioning of these areas deserves special attention as offloading such traffic will alleviate the usually congested network of macro and micro cells.

This research work proposes a novel network planning framework for indoor cellular networks based on multi-objective optimization and Ray Tracing (RT) techniques that further investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of mmW-based communications to provide extremely high data rates to indoor users.

Numerical results show that an appropriate network planning provides paramount gains in terms of network capacity and energy efficiency by determining near-optimal network configurations that are both scenario-specific and optimized for arbitrary service demand distributions.
