Avainsanat: | local optimisation algorithm CPICH power antenna tilt UMTS radio network |
Tiivistelmä (eng): | This master's thesis focuses on the development of an intelligent local optimisation algorithm that automatically adjusts the Common Pilot Channel (CPICH) power and antenna tilt settings. These parameters adjustments improve the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) radio network capacity by means of reducing inter-cell interference, achieve cell load sharing, and optimise base station power resources. The parameters settings are modified adaptively according to the uplink cell loading, base station transmit power and Orthogonal Variable Spreading Factor (OVSF) code utilisation in the downlink. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated using a UMTS Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) static radio network simulator on a virtual scenario of Vienna City. The results showed that the strategy improved the network capacity, measured as the number of served users. It was found that the performance of the algorithm depends on the initial network state, the distribution of the users and the propagation environment. The stability of the algorithm has been verified and it was proven to be robust against with rounding of the optimised parameters settings, various realisations of user distributions as well as fading. |
