Tiivistelmä (eng): | In the pulp and paper industries energy savings have a considerable potential. Energy analysis of the pulp and paper industry have revealed significant energy saving potential for heat, fuel and electricity consumption as well as improved production of heat and power. The objective of this study was to build a benchmarking model for energy consumption in the pulp and paper industry. The model is used in the Jaakko Pöyry Group's energy analysis as a tool in the first phase of an energy analysis study for a pulp and paper mill. The model's purpose is to reveal the biggest gaps in mills' energy consumption and production. The results give quite a good overview of the studied mill's energy efficiency. The model was built with Microsoft Excel. The model is composed of different sheets which need information about the mill studied. These sheets contain information about paper and pulp mills and the power plants. The model also contains databases for each of the above mentioned sheets, which use Excel formulas and macros to find suitable comparison processes for the mill under study. Data from actual mills are collected into the databases. The heat and power consumption figures of the comparison material and the mill under study can be drawn on charts with special buttons made with macros to be presented as explanatory graphs. This master's thesis presents benchmarking results which are gained with the benchmarking model. The consumption figures and process descriptions with the equipment lists in the examples are collected from real mills but are modified because the data from the mills are strictly confidential. |
