| Tiivistelmä (fin): | Diplomityöni on Fiskarsin Kiinteistöjen tilauksesta tehty suunnitelma Fiskarsin ruukin toritoimintaa ja turismia tukevasta kahvila- ja myymälärakennuksesta. Työn tavoitteena oli modernin puurakennuksen suunnittelu historialliseen ruukkimiljööseen. Rakennussuunnitelman lisäksi työ sisältää ehdotuksen torialueen jäsentelystä. Työn ensimmäinen osa esittelee Fiskarsin ruukin historiaa ja rakennuskannan pääpiirteissään. Työn kannalta merkittävää on Fiskarsin viime vuosikymmenien kehitys teollisuuspaikkakunnasta turistien suosimaksi käsityöläis- ja taiteilijakeskittymäksi. Toisessa osassa käsitellään suunnittelualuetta ja sen rakennushistoriaa. Suunnittelualue sijaitsee ruukin keskipisteessä, ala- ja yläruukin yhtymäkohdassa. Kolmannessa osassa esitellään tutkielmia torin tilajärjestelystä ja luonnoksia rakennuksesta. Neljäs ja viimeinen osa sisältää varsinaisen suunnittelutyön. Suunnittelutyössä on pyritty korostamaan ala- ja yläruukin yhteyttä. Torialue ja sitä rajaavan rakennuksen tilat on suunniteltu siten, että ne palvelevat kesän suuria kävijämääriä, mutta ovat riittävän intiimejä hiljaisempaa talvikautta ajatellen. Rakennuksen katettu ulkotila tukee ympärivuotista tori- ja tapahtumatoimintaa. Rakennuksen kerrosala on 323 m2o Pitkä harjakattoinen rakennus viittaa muodollaan alueelta purettuihin varastorakennuksiin ja paikan teolliseen historiaan. Rehellisellä materiaalin käytöllä ja viimeistellyllä työn jäljellä rakennus kertoo kävijöille ruukin pitkästä, yhä jatkuvasta tekemisen perinteestä. |
| Tiivistelmä (eng): | This Master's Thesis was developed for Fiskars Real Estate as part of its effort to support tourist activities in the town center of Fiskars. The goal was to design a modern wooden building containing market support functions, as well as a cafe and retail space, in the milieu of the historic ironworks. In addition to the proposed building design, the project includes a plan for the organization of the open air marketplace immediately adjacent to the structure. The first portion of the thesis presents a short history of the Fiskars community and its historic buildings. What is particularly significant in this history is the shift in recent decades from industrial uses toward a community of artists, designers, and craftsmen. The second portion of the thesis presents the site and its history of use and occupation. The site is situated in the middle of the town, where the lower section meets the upper section of the village. The third portion of the work includes studies of the site organization and sketches of the building. The fourth and final portion presents the design work. The project emphasizes the connection between the lower and upper portions of the village. Both the marketplace and the building have been designed to create a framework large enough to support visitors during the summer tourist season, but compact enough to remain intimate during the quieter winter season. The covered outdoor area of the building supports market functions and provides an opportunity for events year-round. The floor area of the building is 323 m2. The long, gabled form of the building references the architecture of warehouse buildings that once populated the town but have since been demolished. With its honest use of materials and high level of detailing the building demonstrates to visitors the long and continuing tradition of craftsmanship in the area. |
