| Tiivistelmä: | The paper reviews the determination of economic order sizes from a point of view of logistics. It analyses the coordination of order sizes and transportation batches within a hierarchical planning framework. Marginal cost information needed to implement traditional inventory models is used only at an aggregate level in order to determine reorder cycle-times. At the operational level a simple decision rule is suggested which links the supply of material to the pre-defined reorder cycle-times. Furthermore, a heuristic smoothing procedure is developed which allows warehouse intake and available storage capacity to be balanced. |
