Tiivistelmä:Geothermal energy conservation systems and the potential environmental impacts associated with it are described. It is concluded that in comparison with alternatives, geothermal plants are among the most environmentally benign. Geothermal resources are being used today in 21 countries to generate electricity reliably, economically and safely. The combined capacity of these plants is over 6000 MW. For many other countries, particularly in the developing countries, geothermal energy could play a major role in meeting the projected demand for electricity. Technology now permits the utilization of a broad range of resources.
