| Tiivistelmä: | Different views on the role of women in the production at various phases of industrialisation are discussed. The data are collected in one season by one good statistical agency, so they are comparable across levels of development. The authors use individual level logistic regressions to model the effects of education, marital status and urban or rural residence on women's probability of being in the labour force. Women's labour force participation rates are nearly constant across levels of development. The more education a women has, the more likely she is to be in the labour force, relatively few married women participate in it. Participation rates decline after middle age and increase in rural areas. The level of development also shapes the effects of some influences. |
