| Tiivistelmä: | The ever increasing rate of unemployment in Western countries during the eighties gave a new impetus to the investigation into the old explanations of this economic phenomenon. Two existing models are discussed: one is concerned with the structural changes of market conditions; the other is connected to the rationalization within companies. Both describe unemployment as a short-term phenomenon which terminates when a more advantageous macro- or micro-economic situation is reached. Some views of Keynes and the new-classical macroeconomics are considered. The problems of the "natural rate" of unemployment are discussed. A sample of the new theoretical models is presented: the Shirking model, the Labour-turnover model and others. |
